A lot of you have asked about my new favorite plaid cap from Free People. I am pretty excited that we might bump into each other in town and be twins. But with that said, in case you want a different version but the same kind of look, here is a round up with a few of my favorite baseball caps for autumn. I love that a plaid or wool cap is a cold weather option, but its not as cozy and warm as a knit beanie (read: you will not be sweating with 5 minutes of indoor wear). I'm not quite ready for knit hats, so the baseball cap in darker hues (navy, grey, olive green, brown) and autumnal fabrics is perfection for the season right now.

The Day Before Snowfall
There is something magical about the day before the first autumn snowfall. More cold to breathe in, brighter colors contrasting the greyish sky, and extra crunch to the leaves under foot. Without knowing it, I captured that magical day, and without truly knowing the snow would greet me the next morning. And although I did not truly know this was the day before our first real autumn snow, I think the grass knew it. And the still of the lake seemed to hint at it. And perhaps the lens of my camera saw the subtle signs that elude to snowfall. The sky surely knew, as its hidden clouds gave its snow one last embrace before letting loose to cover the colorful traces of autumn below, and cap the mountains like delicious ice cream toppers. But my eyes could not see it. The magical thing about the day before the first autumn snow is that it is really a feeling. Its something that if you pay close attention, you feel it move. You sense the subtle difference, yet you may not be able to say what that is exactly. And you feel it in your gut. I think this is true with so many things. So much of what is happening right in front of us we can't see. But if we stop to sense it, and slow everything else to try and pay closer attention, then that's when the magic shows up.

Autumn Walking
She greets me
Warm hues against crisp air
Fallen leaves, crunching
Scattered beneath
Boots stepping, geese waddling
Autumn finds me here
She greets me
With still ponds
Soon turning icy
Snowfalls melting, not too quickly
Aspens fluttering, elk bucking
Autumn finds me here
She greets me
Where harvest's ending
While life's shifting
Flannel's warming and pie is baking
Full moon's glowing
With barn doors swaying
She greets me
As Autmn's walking here

Thanksgiving with a side of DIY.
Hi friends! I know I said I wouldn't be on here until Spring, BUT had to let you know of the Fallen Leaves Wreath over at Darling Magazine that I contributed. You can read the article in full under The Hostess--over here. (You may remember my inspiration for the wreath HERE). In less than five hours I am on a plane headed straight West. California here I come! I have not been back to see my friends and family since before this blog was even created...crazy, right? It is way past due. I hope you enjoy your time giving thanks with loved ones!

Terrain Autumn.
I just discovered Terrain, which has been a place of inspiration as I've browsed their planters, dried flowers, wreaths, and outdoor decor. One of the things I often do in my personal home design is take inspiration from stores like Anthropologie or West Elm and then see how I can achieve the look for less or by making it myself. Terrain is another one of those inspiring stores, specifically in the realm of outdoor decor. They have some great decorating ideas too! This calendar month is downloadable at Terrain-- you can go get the PDF version over here. I'm currently using it as my desktop background! I am so inspired by this wreath I stumbled upon at the site and am going to try and make a similar version myself. Is it not gorgeous? Have fun browsing, you are sure to be inspired at this site!
