Cat Eyes, a Mirror, and Dresses

Eyeliner has never been my forté, but after reading Natalie's post on her cat-eye crush, I could not resist trying the latest trend. My eyes are rather deep set, so liner always annoyingly leaves smudges above my lids ad doesn't seem to stand out. Also, somehow, by the end of the night, my eye liner seems to disappear. Most likely because it rubs off on my eyelids as I blink and what not. After a recommendation from my sister-in-law Morgan to use cream eye liner with a brush, my eye lining problems have become less and less. Morgan always has stunningly done up eyes, and I've always wanted to try her lined look (but never have due to my smudging/liner disappearing problems). Cream eyeliner has proved, for me, to be the easiest to apply, and the most long lasting--especially when paired with an eyelid primer. So with brush, eyeliner in a jar, and primer, I gave the cat eye look a go when I went out for a glass of wine last night with my girlfriends.

Folksy Friday

Matt teases me about my music taste. There is a common thread that includes banjos, foot stomping, and dreamy feminine vocals. The other piece is that the music makes you want to be in a different era. An era that is now but seems like it happened before. A new type of folk. He can tease me all day though, because that common thread is AWESOME. Case and point: I've been waiting for this day to come--March 22nd--because it means that He's My Brother, She's My Sister is playing in Denver. This band I have loved since hearing about them, through my mom actually, who couldn't stop talking about the drummer Lauren who tap dances on the bass drum. She played me their album in her house and we couldn't help but dance all over. With hometown roots similar to mine, seeing this California band tonight will be like bringing a bit of home to Denver.  I bought tickets for their show and started listening to the other bands they are playing with tonight. Oh my goodness, you guys, I cannot believe I have not heard of Paper Bird before! They are a Colorado band that has been playing alongside The Lumineers and other bands from the underground scene here in the Rockies. Check out the banjos, foot stomping, and lovely vocals for yourself, and happy Friday!

Where did all that DIY go, anyways?

Come warmer weather I have plans to be back to this type of business. The business of sawdust, paint drips, and where hands have to coordinate with thoughtful plans and creative ideas. The business of spending weekends and late nights with Matt, building and tinkering. When Pearls Poppies Pinkies Up just started, do it yourself and do it myself was a huge part of what I wrote about. Then I took a bit of a break from that for winter with the promise that one day, should I feel it in my bones, I'd bring it back on this little blog of mine. So heres to picking up from where I left off, and hopefully a new chapter in the realm of diy, home design, vintage meets modern, and other bits of lovely here at Pearls Poppies Pinkies Up--hopefully come May! Hurray! 

Bikes, Waffles, & Van Gogh

Slip on your wooden shoes, grab your stroopwafles, and call up your Opa because I wrote another article for Darling Magazine--and this time, its all about Amsterdam!

Darling Magazine | Issue No. 3

I often share my excitement about the down to earth, humble and true articles that are up at Darling Magazine online. If you are a friend of mine of Facebook, you might see an overwhelming stack of shared articles on my page--they just speak to me so loud and clear, and I cannot help but tell others about the wise words that pull on my heart strings. And if you follow me on Instagram, you may have been noticing the #darlinginstachallenge photos lately. It's also quite possible you have enjoyed a cup of coffee while reading one of the online pieces, which are written by a handful of women who love Darling so--me included. So yes, I am a huge fan of Darling Magazine. What this magazine, this movement, stands for I want to shout out to the world. One thing you may not be as privy to, is that Darling is not only online. Darling Magazine is in print-- and its truly wonderful! I have Issue No. 1 and Issue No. 2 on my coffee table, and I cannot tell you how often I open them and reread the message of true beauty and worth the pages bestow. Or how often my girlfriends can be found flipping through Darling when they sit in our living room.

Center Knot | inspired by thoughts by natalie.

I am all about dressing with ease. Perhaps that is why a large portion of my wardrobe is dresses. Boom, Pow! Slip one item on and--done! So when I saw an ever so easy and clever styling tip from Natalie's instagram, I was instantly loving it. Simply an oversized tee with a center knot! I love the look with a high wasted skirt or over a dress, to add a bit of laid back comfort. The vintage v-neck tees from Old Navy are my all time favorite, mostly because they are ridiculously soft, shades of heather, and affordable (and ladies, right now you can buy two for $7.50).

In celebration for St.Patty's day, and the little bit of Irish blood I got from my Grandma Pat, this middle knotted style is my go to today, with a very green pencil skirt. How would you style this center knotted inspiration from thoughts by natalie?

Swans and sunny days.

Today the sun warmed us up to 60 degrees. Yipee! The Beatles Good Day, Sunshine melodied through my mind all day. If I could be anywhere tomorrow, I'd chose to hang out at a lake, near a pool, on a beach... wearing a swim cap, yellow suit, and sipping a coke, you with me? And I am also wanting to find a clothing item in a print (I imagine a high waisted skirt, wrap dress, or tote being adorable in swan print) like this:

{Darling Magazine} Thou Art in Rome!

As I continue to take a step back from writing and DIYing everyday here at pearls poppies pinkies up, you can still find me writing over at Darling Magazine. Lately, I have been contributing pieces for The Explorer, relating to travel and adventure. I have been so blessed to be able to experience a few cities very different from my own--and am so thankful to get to write about them! The latest on Rome was posted yesterday at Darling Magazine online. You can read the article in full over here.
