Darling Tea Towels

Last week my tips and how to's for Hand Painted Tea Towels was up at Darling Magazine under The Hostess. You can read the article in full over here. I just sent some of these tea towels off to my best friend and her mom--they are the perfect Christmas gift! And they work great a-top a mason jar filled with goodies like peanut brittle, homemade granola, or peppermint bark. YUM! I hope this winter is treating you well! We leave for Argentina and Peru in 6 days! Its going to be a summer-like Christmas this year. Love and cheer from me to you!

Yellow Floral Bedding

This morning started with boxes and Ikea assembly parts. Now, at the end of the day, I am sitting on the new bed in our guest bedroom. No longer just a crafting room, this space can actually be used by friends and family! I love the mix of colors, patterns, and tones. Since the decor was very mix and match in this room to start, with no one piece of furniture even close to the same, I decided to extend the feel with the bedding-- floral yellow, grey stripes, black and white knit. I moved the furniture around so now I have more of a work space in one corner of the room, with the rest of the area a little bit more simple and light feeling. I hope to post more photos  soon, even amidst this blogging sabbatical--but here are some Instagram shots for now! OH and we hung our curtains today in the front room. Quite productive.

Thanksgiving with a side of DIY.

Hi friends! I know I said I wouldn't be on here until Spring, BUT had to let you know of the Fallen Leaves Wreath over at Darling Magazine that I contributed. You can read the article in full under The Hostess--over here. (You may remember my inspiration for the wreath HERE). In less than five hours I am on a plane headed straight West. California here I come! I have not been back to see my friends and family since before this blog was even created...crazy, right? It is way past due. We are enjoying the last stretch of warm days before the snow arrives. Luckily, cold days in Denver are still paired with sunshine-- and that I am thankful for. You may have noticed my lack of new material on the blog over the past month. Part of that lack is due to my need to get outdoors, be with Matt, and spend time cultivating friendships. Another part of that is related to my heart-- the layers beneath, and seeking the Lord. Just as there is summer, fall, winter and spring, there are also seasons in life. Currently, I am going through a season of needing to simplify and step back from a few things. One of those things being Pearls Poppies Pinkies Up.  So as I am signing off for a bit, know this isn't goodbye, its only just see you in a little while.

You can still catch me writing and sharing projects over at Darling Magazine. I am excited to say that I will be contributing on a more regular basis under The Hostess, so definitely be checking in to read what myself and other women are writing about--over here.

Bright and Bold Menu Chalkboard.

Matt and I are so lucky to have neighbors who feed us. Chris is a darn great chef, and we've had the luxury of tasting a bit of his own Italian roots through the meals he cooks at weekly "family dinners". Since we moved here to Colorado, Chris and Lauren have opened their home and have invited us to partake in conversation and laughs over home cooked meals, charades, and stories about our weeks. We've gotten to meet their friends and have a bit of quality "family" time. Its lovely.

When Chris and Lauren asked me to help them come up with art or a gallery wall to put up on the blank space in their well-loved and heart-of-the-home kitchen, we decided that a menu board was a was a must. Thanks to the scrap furniture store, they found this large frame for dirt cheap, which I painted with my favorite shade of red (left-over from past projects). Chris then cut out a piece of scrap fiber board which I painted with chalk board paint (again, left over). A little adhesive, and voila! The chalkboard menu is so large and the PERFECT addition to the space and the people who live there. I loved how Chris even had me come over last night to write the first official menu as he was cooking--and of course, the last touch was a signature from the chef. Confetti, Balloons, and a Winner.

Whenever November is nearing, I get into birthday party excitement. I don't even have birthday parties anymore, but the though of balloons, homemade decorations, streamers, pom poms, and cake candles set in this nostalgia of childhood. Piñatas, birthday surprises, party dresses, and a day where its okay to feel a bit spoiled. Can you relate when your birthday nears? Well, its not my birthday yet, but I can still bust out the celebratory photographs to announce the Shabby Apple Giveaway winner! A Weekend & A Week Off.

Getting out of town for the day is one of the best ways for me to feel refreshed and restored. Matt and I ventured out to Estes Park with our dear neighbors this past Saturday. I cannot thank God enough for creation and the way its beauty just abounds here in Colorado. Do I really live here? The day started with lattes at Kind Coffee, followed by a breathe taking hike to some falls, time spent gaping and climbing around on boulders with amazing views, Elk spotting (its mating season!), exploring The Stanley Hotel (Stephen King's Shining inspiration), and ending the day at a local brewery with Honey Wheat IPA. 

The time spent at Kind Coffee, and the heart to heart conversation with Matt, got me really excited about some things that may be happening here on the blog. November is going to be a big month. And at the same time, my day spent outdoors, inspired by silence and the little things in nature, and just being has made me want to take a week off from blogging for some solitude, reflection, and goal setting. 

I know you can probably relate to searching for that balance in life--balancing the things of this world with your desire to be in creation and away from it all. Thanks for sticking with me as I take a little time for this. I will see you in a week, lovelies, when I come back to announce the giveaway winner!

Meet Jenna. She is more than just my cousin. More than just a best friend. More than just a woman with a huge heart and a love for the little things. More than just a girl with a crazy creative mind and an expansive imagination. And more than just a grown up who is okay with posing like a dinosaur :)  Jenna and her sister Katie have been more like sister's to me. Some of my best memories are from adventures with these two. Can you tell that I am a little too into yellow?

Color Translation: Buffalo Plaid.

I am smitten with buffalo plaid. It exudes fall, warmth, and classic. And when used in the right design element, or in a surprising silhouette, it makes my heart jump a bit-- can you relate? I love how a pattern so eclectically vintage is currently embraced by modern home design and fashion trends.  And I am loving this LOFT jacket I splurged on for fall. Keep watch, LOFT has sales ALL the time. I was lucky to snag this wool coat for 60 percent off. Now for a bit of buffalo plaid color translation and inspiration.

Social Media and Blogging

The answers are in and it seems that Twitter is the most loved social media tool used by bloggers. Well, at least from Beth's sampling. Today I'm over at Beth's blog, Dot in the City, with a handful of other women, answering the question What is your favorite form of social media & what have you learned from using it? Dainty Ribbon & Lace Tea Lights

I have seen others make beautiful candle holders with jars and lace, and I decided this fall I was needing some of my own. Hobby Lobby was having a 50 percent off sale when I went last week! Great timing, because all the glass jars and ribbons were a steal. I maybe only spent 5 dollars on the materials for this project. That, and this was my first ever project using Mod Podge. I know, I know, why have I never used it before?! I can't fully answer that question, but I can say that I will never look back, and that I will use Mod Podge for all my future gluing necessities. Be warned, this project makes your fingers sticky!

1.  Gather Supplies  2. Measure and cut your ribbon and lace to length   3. Cover the glass jar with Mod Podge  4. Place ribbon on jar, using your fingers or a q-tip to press it down   5. Apply more Mod Podge over the ribbon and add more layers of lace and ribbon to your liking   6.  Allow drying time. Set jars out to dry upside down with the mouth of the jar on the table. 

You can glue the ribbon and lace over the entire jar, however, I left the rims of the jars lace free so that I could still put the tin lids back on if I wanted. I like the mix of metallic and lace on the glass jars when they aren't holding lit candles. The ribbons I chose can easily transition into my Christmas Decor, without being overly "holiday" while they are out in my home during the fall. My favorite ribbon has to be the textured trim that has little pom-poms. Aren't those pom-poms so cute? And the way the texture gives depth and visual interest when illuminated by the tea light, so pretty!

 I think I may need to make a few more sets of these tea lights to give away as gifts, what do you think?
