Sprinkle Covered

I realized something while looking at snapshots from our trip. If I had to describe Sayulita, Mexico in all of its splendor, my description may be best given as a metaphor. Sayulita is the chocolate-dipped-sprinkle-covered-frozen-banana of my dreams. It is bright, and rich, and messy, and melt in your mouth perfection. And when you are enjoying it, all the rest of the world disappears. The moment is about enjoying each bite. You cannot help but think of the chocolatey, melty, sprinkle goodness that is the dipped banana--that is Sayulita. And even better, is when all of your friends have choco banana with you--everyone ooey and gooey and enjoying it together. Sayulita, and frozen diped bananas, are best this way. 

The "sprinkles" of Sayulta are all over the place. Colors here and there, everywhere. The markets are filled to the brim with hot hues of every shade. At one store, called the Gypsy Gallery, hand loomed and woven vintage fabrics are ALL over. It was hard to resist filling up a second suitcase! Handmade, bright, and rich textiles--perfection, right?

Argentina Travels: Caminito, La Boca.

It is a sunny 60 plus out today, and so my heart feels full of warmth and color, more so than it has this January. Its almost as though a blast of confetti goes flittering around inside my soul when I stand in the rays of the warm winter sun today. I hope it stays awhile. Wherever you may be, I wanted to bring you some warmth and simple joy from the vibrant streets of La Boca, Argentina. No other place have I been so colorful and jovial. And all consisting of just a few little streets, "caminitos", this little place too, like a warm day amidst winter, makes my soul flitter and flut. To preface, we arrived via subway and trekked a few miles to get to La Boca. You can follow our path and enjoy below.

This week I have spent more hours in my covers and sheets, sprawled out on the couch, and buried in pillows and kleenex than I have in ten years. You can read more about that HERE. It is only suiting that my wanderings on Pinterest lately have been heavily weighted in browsing photographs of cozy spaces. In my last post on color translation HERE, I mentioned that I often find myself translating home decor items, photographs, and well loved outfits into home design color palettes and aesthetic. Although the feel of Pink, Pattern and Cheery is far from Brown, Plaid, and Equestrian {and visa versa}, both design aesthetics in this collection derive from the utmost in comfy, cozy, curl up with a good book, take a cat nap, and rest your soul necessities. These beautiful spaces could have also been inspired & translated from these vintage {meets modern} home decor and style items. One thing is for certain,  with a cup of tea and book in hand, all of these rooms fit well with the wise words of C.S. Lewis "You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me."

Color translation: Navy and yellow.

Quite often I find myself translating favorite outfits over into my home design color palette and aesthetic. One of my all time favorite outfits is my navy boat neck polkadot top combined with my high wasted bright yellow A-line skirt. Navy and yellow are classic, a place where feminine can meet masculine, and an overall perfect pair. Inspired by navy and yellow in more ways than just this outfit, I've made a collection of some beautiful inspired spaces that could have easily been inspired & translated from these vintage feeling home decor items.

This rug brings the garden inside. It exudes cheery. I love that rugs can work as floor art and really bring a room together. Especially a rug with character like the cow print. I can imagine children playing in this room and how soft that rug must feel to sit on!

Little Green Notebook Jenny's design combines navy, yellow, and a hint a salmon, 

somewhat reminiscent of this grapefruit photograph I fell in love with on Etsy.

The design up top translates {to me} as this vintage soap sign. They both have that dark and light contrast and vintage feel. The walls in this hallway space are so dark navy they almost feel black. I really like the mysterious element this room portrays (Especially with the solemn portraits. It really does tell quite the story.)

This kitchen is so bright and cheery, a trick that yellow and white always have up their sleeve. Notice the Ikat print on these chairs? To die for! If I were to set up shop in this kitchen, I may swap out the flip flops for these vintage plates.

The upholstered doors into this library breakfast area are stunning. Note to self, navy and yellow when combined with fuchsia make any room drop dead gorgeous.

When the family moved into this house, I am sure they first saw yellow and navy as the palette for their child's room. But soon the walls of this little artist's space became an array of shades, fingerprints, and water color drips. Still, the navy and yellow complements it all, don't you agree? (Also, I love that the art table is RIGHT there in the room. Maybe this is actually part guest room part play room?)
