Desk Space

Working from home lately has got me thinking about desk space and my dream set up. My best writing and art come when I have a space to sneak away to. Living in tight quarters as we do right now, a desk space is more of a shared area for Matt and I to both work. Because of that, I want to have our little office space be aesthetically pleasing for both of us. A well balanced mix of masculine and feminine. I'm thinking exposed wood, hints of metal, vintage elements, and of course a few pops of color. I've been hounding Pinterest while thinking of how I would want to transform this area, and make it different (I can't even begin to tell you how non-existant a desk space in our home is right now...a tour on that room to come next week). 

There are design elements from each of these photos that I am saving for that day I tackle the desk space-- industrial or reclaimed desk, metal lamp, statement art, natural light, bright textile rug, maps, clean white space, pops of color (like that chartreuse and red!):

Library card catalogues.

After the light show last night (that's what I've begun to call thunderstorms when there is no rain but lightening illuminating the black sky one bolt per every 2 seconds), I woke up to the sound of progress. Saws, voices, large trucks, and the sound of wood piles being made. Yes. This means our garage is being built. This means that we will have a place to put outdoor things and big tools for big projects. This means that the cave can soon become a room. This means you can visit. And, this means that my dreams of a guest room doubling as an art multipurpose work room can become reality. With progress on the garage as more of an actual reality, I have also been making progress with my dreams for the second room. I would love to find a library catalogue to fix up. The children's center I worked at in my college years had one of these in the preschool classroom, and ever since I laid eyes on that beauty it has stayed in the "to find" category of my mind. How lovely are these?

When researching for these on eBay, I've concluded that these go anywhere from $100-$700. I do not have that much to spend. Here's hoping that Goodwill or Craigslist is faithful or I stumble upon one at a garage or estate sale. I am willing to be patient for one of these beauties!

UPDATE: Lo and behold, I browsed craigslist and found a listing for one of these bad jacksons (see below). It is massive, with 60 drawers and measuring 65" wide x 29.5" high x 18" deep. The ultimate storage and junk drawer haven. I emailed the lister and here's hoping the wood isn't laminate, that I can haggle the price down, and that I can sell Matt on the project (because, I will need his man power and tools to help me fix it up....). It isn't the ultimate vintage vintage, but I am willing to compromise a bit if it means that its more affordable. I would have to drive an hour to get it if I do. I don't care, I am giddy at the thought! Loyal blog readers, what would you do? Buy, not buy? Help!
