WEAR | Scarf that Dirty Hair

A busy life means prioritizing. And for me, that means clean hair often gets the ax. Especially on the weekends. Dry shampoo is a life saver, truly and always, but lately for me I've had to come up with clever ways to make amends with hair that cannot be helped by dry shampoo. Embarrassing, really, to share this maybe, yet the reality of my life (and yours too I'm sure)! When my day is going to potentially end with a run or a swim, it feels silly for me to wash my hair in the morning when its just going to get dirty or completely soaked later in the day. Work days at Anthropologie are pretty much designated hair washing days -all the rest- fair game for dirty. One of my beyond the help of dry shampoo hair solutions is the head wrap. Scarf, handkerchief, fabric: any and all do the trick. Yesterday I wore my hair like this through yard work, errand running, coffee shopping, and a mid-afternoon stop for Belgium fries.

I like the messy Bohemian feel, and tend to leave it a bit tousled and imperfect. I take the front portion of hair around my face and leave it down, then wrap the scarf around and under the back portion of my hair (you can put the back portion in a pony tail while you wrap the scarf and tie it in place). Then for the braid, incorporate the front pieces into the back pieces. Pull a few strands out to frame your face and  wiggle your fingers through the braid to loosen it up for a more messy look. Or, just wear it all day and it becomes tousled on its own :) The key is that the scarf covers dirty roots. Shhhh, don't tell….

In Denver, they say if you don't like the weather, wait a day. So I waited. I liked the snowfall that showed up last week, but my body (who's been battling a chest cold) likes warm sunshine most. If bright warm sun couldn't cure my cold, bright red lipstick would. I was convinced (and still am). So the weekend better hurry back. I am ready for another dose of sunny, another coat of lipstick, and another non-work day to wear my tattered cowboy boots.

Two Braids Intertwined

Quite a few of you wanted to know what the front and side of this braided do looked like after posting it on Instagram. My hair has gotten super long, so with the heat, braiding it up and off my neck has become a default. I feel like I need to wear a dirndl when my hair is up like this....

Lovely Locks | Nape of Neck Braid & Side Bun

Though I tend to walk out my door each morning, with my hair still slightly damp from my shower, or pulled back in a simple bun or ponytail, lately I've been stepping it up. I've actually been trying different ways to twist, pin, and braid these locks of mine. Fancy that! The heat, and my active schedule, have made wearing my hair down an uphill battle (namely sweaty and tousled have been my nemesis), and I've been trying mermaid braids, inside out braids, and other looks that I really love instead. After posting my weekend do on Instagram this weekend, the nape of neck braid and side bun, so many of you asked that I give a tutorial! I usually leave the hair tutorials to my friend Natalie and other beauty blogs, but you insisted. So, just for you, I stepped out of the box and got myself on film braiding away. Enjoy!

Beachy Locks

In my attempt to have healthier hair, I am shampooing and blowdrying less, air drying and allowing my natural wave to set in more. Now, my wave is very uneven and not in the least bit curly all on its own (a very lazy wave, as seen here)--but with the beachy sprays that they make these days, a bit of tousling and scrunching, I can get a pretty good wave on. When looking for the products suggested by Natalie (this girl knows how to pull off beachy) I stumbled upon Got2b beach trippin'--I love it!  I thought you might like it too, so here is how I make my lazy waves a little more beachy and  bouncy.

Autumn is here, but I am not quite ready to give up my summer hairstyles. What were a few of your favorites from the season? Here is a look back on a few of my favorites. I was seeing twists, waves, and braids galore. The sock bun and inside out braid I loved the most, and have hopes to master the fishtail braid as my hair grows a bit longer come fall and winter. Lovely locks

 Some of you may have seen this image floating around on pinterest. The waterfall braid. It just sings "let's frolic in a field of wildflowers." I decided to try it. And after a lot of "likes" on Facebook, I figured some of you may want the original tutorial source so you can do this lovely number to your locks!

My hair is a lot shorter than the girl in the first photograph, so when it can time to make the remaining hair into a cascading braid down the side, I was stuck with not much hair to work with. I ended up securely pinning the the hair in place and letting the ends fall in line with the rest of my non braided hair. It also helped having a bit of wave and somewhat dirty locks to keep this style in place. On hotter days, you can do this style and twist the flowing hair into a nape of the neck bun. This is perfect for triple digit weather and a great option when you feel like you're in a pony tail rut. I braided my bangs back into the waterfall braid, but you can also leave them out (as I believe Megan did here, in her tutorial).

Scarves in the summertime

I love scarves yet I hardly ever wear them anywhere other than around my neck. This sheer camel colored vintage scarf I found in my grandma's dresser. The rose print reminds me of her love for flowers and the hours spent playing dress up at her house. I am a devout user of scarves in the winter, but why my neglect in the summer? I've decided that a delicate scarf is so pretty for summer, especially as a head wrap or headband. And, it can even be worn as a more BoHo hair accessory. The 1950s knew that a scarf was versatile and darling. Let's bring that back, shall we? 

There are some absurdly pretty scarves on sale at Anthropologie right now. I am sure you can find a beauty at a flea market of thrift store for a great steal. But here are some for your viewing pleasure. All three color palettes are great for summertime (or even a pop of color and reminder of sunny days in the cold of winter).
