You don't want to miss West End Salvage

Would you believe me if I told you that each of the four floors inside this brick building are filled to the brim with antiques and salvaged vintage pieces? Hanging from the ceilings, stacked along the walls, crammed so full that if you blink you may miss something? And would you believe me if I told you that this building, standing in downtown Des Moines, can pretty much hold its own against L.A. flea markets? I know, this is big talk. And you know I wouldn't compare just anything to Pasadena's Rose Bowl Flea Market (oh, how I miss it!), but West End Salvage in Iowa is amazing. Amazing. (No wonder they had their own HGTV show!

Luckily, my iPhone got some snippets of the place--and only snippets because I really was quite busy ooh-ing and aaah-ing with my sister-in-law Morgan that I took minimal photographs (although, a random passerby may beg to differ, as my minimal photo taking may be considered a maximum to some in situations like this).

So, if you still don't believe my lofty claims about this amazing store, let's treasure hunt, shall we?

Make note, mid-America, the trek may be worth it to West End Salvage in your near future. If the photographs weren't convincing enough, let me entice you with coffee. A coffee shop welcomes visitors on the main floor with large tables (for camping out), so you can hang out for hours like I might one day. And sip your latte while meandering the labyrinth of salvage! Luckily, we have family in Iowa, so I always have a reason to go back. As long as new things are made and purchased, and time continues, there will always be vintage, the salvaged, and antiques. Thank goodness for that!

PS- Remember these vintage doors and these amazing rusty metal letters? Also, tips for pickers.

Isn't having family in Iowa fun! I've never been to that antique store, but it sure looks neat.

It is so fun having a reason to head east, and spend some time near cornfields :) You must go to this shop if you are ever in Des Moines!
